Canterbury 4a's 4-1 Men's 3rd XI
After losing to Sevenoaks the previous weekend, Brighton were not only keen to avoid making it two in a row but they also hoped to avenge their defeat in Kent earlier in the season (albeit that was played with only 10 men).
Although the 3s started brightly and put the opposition under some early scrutiny they never seriously troubled the opposition goalie. Then some point after about 6 mins all 11 players decided to either a) go to sleep or b) have their bodies possessed by a animals similar to headless chickens for the next 20 mins. Following our return from this David Copperfield type illusion (see www.davidcopperfield.com for an example) we found ourselves 4 - 0 down. Following a neat move from Sam and Bondy, Doc pulled one back before the half time whistle.
Please note I can’t remember the exact order of goals but I have decided to use a little poetic license
It turned out to be a game of two halves. The youngsters of Canterbury stopped running so fast and Brighton moved the ball much better but couldn't create the goals that were required. Doc was then cruelly denied a second by the umpire following great stick stopping skills from Prucey. Second half result 0-0.
On leaving the pitch Skipper Dan Simpson was rumoured to be considering calling up journeyman Santosh for next weeks trip to Herne Bay. Dan said 'I think I will pick Santosh on his ability to lob the goalie from the edge of the D, let’s hope he can do it next week'.
