Penguin III 2-5 Men's 5th XI

Penguin III arrived with a team which was mostly unrecognisable from the team that Brighton played in the first half of the season. The 5s believed this was the reason that they were now second in the table, however the battling 5s took the game to Penguins as early as the second minute when Ramzy punted a long ball down the line, some might say he over hit it but not Will Selby who picked it up on the by-line 4 metres out and with an approaching Penguin he took aim and scored from approximately 179 degrees, past a bemused keeper who watched the ball go past the face of goal, hit the post and bounce in (1-0). Penguins then launched pressure on Brighton, however Brighton were looking good on the break with Benson and Josh coming close twice, before Rob zig zagged through the defence to score under the keeper from the P spot. Again a period of Penguins pressure followed, with Matt Squires making some tremendous saves in goal.

With half time approaching Benson slipped the ball to Will who passed with power to Josh 3 metres out to the right of goal who steered a slow ball under the Penguin keeper's foot to make it 3-0 at halftime with thanks to young keeper Matt Squires who had kept the march of the penguins at bay.

Halftime team talk was all about keeping defence tight and not letting them score any silly goals, two minutes into the half when Myles tried a cross field ball which was intercepted and even Matt Squires was powerless to stop the Penguins waddling in a comeback goal. The defence was looking shaky with Ollie slipping over in his trainers whenever he had the ball, he asked the sidelines did anyone have any spare astros, size 11!!

Benson was soon on the score sheet scoring from the top left of the D but it was the two Wills getting the plaudits from the sidelines Will Selby who had caught the waiting LadiesGull's eyes.......they are looking forward to him coming to Thursday night training!! And Will Wells who seemed to have the the centre forward who was at least twice his age in his pocket.

Another defensive error (no names Myl...!!) led to a Penguin second, but Benson was not done he got a second too (5 in 5 for the ginger one in 2007), when Benson said I can't afford to get a hat trick, College offered to get the jug should he get a third. But he didn't - 5-2 job done.

A great team performance with the 5s making the most of their opportunities in front of goal and good defending from Swampy, Will W, College, Myles and some great saves from Matt Squires.

As the game ended the Penguin captain said to Ramzy, "Thats not the side that lost 10-1 to M&B," Ramzy replied, "That is correct, its the side that beat M&B 10-1," A sheepish Penguin said, "You mean you won that game we thought you lost it!" Me thinks the Penguin tactician made an error on this game.

Next week we visit top of the table Worthing.
