Eastcote 3-2 Men's 1st XI

Brighton arrived at Eastcote knowing that this match was the most important game of the season so far. With two key players missing - Luke Williams and Hugh Salter there was a chance for a second debut in as many weeks. This time the man stepping into the firing line was Brighton Uni “student” Tom Langton.

In typical fashion Brighton started slowly and before long went one nil down to a deflected short corner scored on the Brighton left hand side. Brighton didn’t really step up after this and continued to play poorly throughout the first half.

The second half started much better, Brighton managed to keep the ball in the Eastcote half and started to get goal scoring opportunities. When Eastcote started to talk back to the umpire Brighton were awarded a short corner which was originally a free hit outside the D. The corner was slipped right and Sam Rose flicked the ball across the goal into the far side on the backboard.

Brighton continued to pressure the Eastcote goal; Dan Hore got behind the defence onto the base line and won another short corner which was converted by Gareth Lendrum into the bottom left hand corner of the Eastcote goal.

Brighton kept on attacking the Eastcote goal and Sam Rose struck a reverse stick shot, past the post and into the side of Brighton attacker Jamie Hendricks. This stoppage broke Brighton’s concentration and Eastcote scored a very soft goal soon after the re-start. The last 10 minutes were very tense and Brighton found it hard to gain any momentum, and with little possession Eastcote had a few more chances on goal. The Eastcote winner came after the final whistle with another moved short corner.
