Chichester 5-1 Men's 1st XI

Not the best display from Brighton this weekend when a promotion seeking Chichester visted Falmer. Brighton went into the game with high hopes of producing a result which echoed their last encounter in early January which took them into another Sussex Cup Final. Chichester started strongly and were a goal up within 5 minutes after a poor pass from Luke Williams on the halfway line allowed a swift counter attack leading to the goal. Brighton had a couple of short corners that could have turned the game in their favour but both led to nothing. Chichester then scored to put the visitors two up and Brighton heads began to waver before Simon Coles scored his second league goal to take them into the break at 2-1. A quick free hit just outside the Chi D was taken by Dan Hore and was perfectly placed for a deflection by Coles into the back of the net.

Brighton struggled to produce any consistent possesion in the second half and a lot of poor passing decisions led to Chi taking hold of the game and winning comfortably 5-1. Keeper Neil Burlinson kept the score down with another good performance between the sticks.

Brighton were without Hugh Salter, who is out for at least 4 weeks with a broken hand after last weeks game. His replacement, Mark Hardy, slotted into left back and gave a solid display.
