Chichester 1s 3-0 Ladies' 2nd XI

The first match of the season for the Ladies 2s was a challenging Premier league fixture against Chichester 1s, who joined the league after
relegation last season.

The Brighton team was the unique blend of youth, experience, glamour, determination, skill and randomness we have come to expect from the Ladies 2s, but enough about Hayley. The team included 5 players making their first appearance for the 2s - Sharon (GK), Jac, Lyric, Ellie and Kate; welcome to the team!

We knew things were going well as every team member made it through the A27 traffic nightmare and arrived at the pitch - with at least 10 minutes to go before push back. We’ve got the worst journey of the season out of the way early girls. Things continued to go well as we won the toss and played an excellent first 25 minutes, containing the Chichester attacks, creating a number of our own, and not slipping over too much (what was wrong with the pitch ??).
Chichester then scored a well worked goal towards the end of the first half, but we were still very much in the game.

Chichester scored again early in the second half and later got a third, which I thought showed little gratitude for Gina’s concern for the health of the astro and the Chi coach, in asking him to stop chain smoking.

Despite conceding more goals, everyone continued to put pressure on the opposition and they had to keep working for the whole game.
We tried out our sparkly new set pieces fresh from Training - with a bit more practice these will start to hit the back of the net. Special mentions for Sharon for stopping a head height shell at the goal, even though it knocked her off her feet, Emily for running her legs off without a break (sorry), to Kate for getting THE shot on goal, to Lyric for the unique and entertaining conversation in the car on the journey home, Tara for bringing 2 supporters, and Hayley for the Oompaa Loompaa thing. Can’t wait for the next game!
