Sevenoaks 2-1 Men's 1st XI

After losing 5-0 at home to Sevenoaks in the first half of the season Brighton were looking to regain some pride and show the league that they were still a force to be reckoned with. Sevenoaks had won their previous game 10-2 against lowly City of Portsmouth and came into this game on a high and looking for more goals. Brighton on the other hand, had other ideas and started the game with confidence, holding possesion well and putting Sevenoaks on the back foot early on.

Brighton were looking strong, but a loose pass to the Sevenoaks center forward gave them an opening which they took with open arms with a well placed strike into the bottom left of Neil's goal. Heads could have gone down, but in true Brighton spirit the team pulled together and within 5 minutes were awarded a hit just outside the Sevenoaks D. Gareth Lundrum stepped up and struck a screamer towards the opponents back post where Jamie Hendricks was waiting with eyes wide open. The ball deflected up off a defenders foot and was heading wide had it not been for Jamie's cat-like reactions ...... and the help of his knee.

The remainder of the match was a hard fought battle with Sevenoaks having the majority of the attacks but Brighton's defence winning each fight. Neil Burlinson once again made some outstanding saves when Sevenoaks managed to break through. Justin Harris was substituted through injury and Hugh Salter also took a ball on the hand and looked like he was to take no further part, but he battled on through the pain. It looked like Brighton would take a point away from the game, but 3 minutes from time a nicely worked short corner was dragged into the roof of the Brighton goal.

Although no points were taken from the game, it was a vast improvement on the first half of the season against the league leaders.
