Penguin 2's 2-2 Men's 3rd XI
Scorers: Beglin, Scopes
This wasn't the expected performance to round off the first half of the season. The 3's had been getting back to near their potential and would have gone 3rd in the league had all three points been taken but instead a poxy 1 point was all we mustered.
Penguins had their two champagne moments and with a boisterous crowd behind them went 2 - 0 up fairly quickly. Brighton were happy to have Grimesy back but missed Pruce, Hacking and Delea. It would be wrong to blame the Durrington pitch and the horrible low sun in the first half - but there you go I just did.
Comedy moment of the game was contested by some 'classic' passing round the back by Mr Late- but the winner was the penguin's goalie who, for some bizarre reason, had a funny hallucination and thought the ball had morphed into a grenade. Fearing the loss of innocent life, he dived on it and protected women and children from a horrible demise. Why he didn't take all the time in the world and kick the ball (which was at his feet) was a mystery to everyone on the pitch. But there you go - thanks for the Penalty flick mate!!
Beglin converted the flick and half time finished 2- 1 down.
In the second half Brighton dominated but were still 'off the boil'.
Scopes slotted a deserved equaliser and honours were even - much to the surprise of the penguins crowd who had thought there side were winning 3 - 2 (unlucky!)
Overall assessment ... A really crap performance.
