Crowborough Chicks 1-1 Junior Gulls XI
With recent successes against Llamas, we were confident against the merely 2-legged chicks. With the return of Alice, her first game back since being broken (in the collarbone department) by Penguins in her first game way back in October, we were confident. Having reached the pitch with NO U TURNS (a first for me), the confidence levels were sky high. The fact that our stand-in goalkeeper was lost with our driver and only supporter, Monica, in deepest darkest Crowborough was a little perturbing. Billy managed to get pitch-side and kitted up with minutes to go. Confidence still high. Lucky for us Begs had come as supportive father and driver, ending up as umpire as well, given that the promised offer of 2 had evaporated. As far as the game goes we were all over them, however the back of the net remained elusive. Eventually we broke our duck as Alex scored a blinder of a short corner (with three goals this season I think this makes her our top scorer). We went into the second half still one up, with confidence on the up. We didn't, however, come prepared for torrential rain, and were less sturdy than the opposition, who scored their equaliser while we were otherwise occupied getting wet. At the start of the season we would have been happy to return to Brighton proud winners of a whole point, but our sights are set higher now.
Thanks to all the Gulls, Billy, Ange, Alice, Katherine, Becky, Alex, Beth, Bella, Zoe and Ellen.
Thanks to the drivers, Neil (and umpire), Alex's mum and Monica.
Bring on the Penguins next week.
