Southwick II 2-0 Men's 5th XI

This week Brighton V’s entertained top of the league and unbeaten Southwick II’s at Stanley Deason. Bearing in mind the 5’s current league position this game was always going to be tough.

The 5’s lined up with young Matt Squire’s making his 5’s debut in goal and the team were again without Captain Ramzy due to yet another Saturday Soiree!

The 5’s started off well with the team passing the ball fluidly in midfield and the defence thwarting the Southwick attackers. However Brighton were unable to test the Southwick keeper. Brighton went behind after 20 when the ball wasn’t cleared on a couple of occasions from the edge of their D and a Southwick striker was able to slot the ball passed Matt in goal. 0-1 Half time.

The second half carried on in a similar vein with both sides having good periods of possession with Brighton still unable to test the Southwick keeper from open play or a couple of shorts. Southwick added a second goal with a well worked short corner routine midway through the half. The 5’s continued to play decent hockey until the end without really putting any pressure on the Southwick goal.

A creditable performance from the 5’s bearing in mind last week’s embarrassment at M & B. Matt Squire’s made an assured debut and there were some encouraging periods of play. The 5’s hope to improve on their form with next week’s away game against Penguins.
