Folkestone 3's 4-4 Men's 3rd XI
Scorers: Beglin 2, Bondy, Simpson
The general mood in the 3's camp was one of bewilderment and massive disappointment following Saturdays shock draw at lowly Folkestone. The long journey to the worst astro pitch in the northern hemisphere went well. The changing rooms still resemble barracks from Colditz - but hey, who cares? We were up for a sound performance and expected three points.
The game started indifferently with us conceding an early goal, against play and not much to fear. Then normal service was resumed, complete domination, all the possession and three goals bagged. Such was the control that Dan Simpson had not one - but two reverse stick shots on target (it has been some years since he has graced us with one of those). Half time 3-1 up and looking good... no problem!
Not sure what happened second half, Folkestone moved their best player out of the front line and into centre midfield, which gave them more structure - but still it shouldn't have mattered given the way we had been dominating the game. They scored and then Beglin got his second, a first time shot having been played in beautifully by Prucey. Folkestone managed to score twice in the late stages of the game and got themselves a point. Credit to them for a much better second half - but you have to say from a Brighton perspective: 'What the #@$% happened there?' Tom Scopes was lucky to get out of the changing rooms unscathed following his overly long explanation about his bank card situation... a risky time to bore the pants of angry team members. But he managed to avoid what would have surely been a justifiable kicking that could have ensued.
Results went well for us elsewhere in the league, so the damage was not too great. Roll on Canterbury 4's.
