Crowborough 1 4-4 Men's 4th XI

After four defeats in a row the super 4’s were looking to stop the tot. in unusual fashion Brighton started quickly, good quick passing by all resulted in brighton in control. Surely they had to score?! And they did new to the team BMF dave produced his first goal for the super 4’s with good fashion from the top of the ‘D’ from a well practiced short corner routine.

The second goal followed shortly though we’re not quite sure who scored it, wappy suggested later in the bar that as nobody could remember he would claim it! Although it was probably Davros.

Two goals in the lead brighton reverted to it’s old self. Foot of the gas, crowborough were allowed to play and started to get a foothold on the game. With brighton in relax mode the penetrating passes began to slip through the brighton midfield and defense until the bubble finally burst and crowborough got through on the left wing to fire a shot off, bouncing off hehir’s pads the crowborough player was allowed a second shot and didn’t miss this time!

Play started again and brighton were still on the back foot, buoyed by their goal crowborough continued to ply the pressure, the game started to get a little heated and on the right the tension boiled over when a crowborough player thought it would be a good idea to shove BMF dave, not a very good idea, BMF dave had to be pulled away by the umpire as he squared up to the crowborough man. How lucky the crowborough player was the umpire intervened as the 1000 yard stare could be seen! With the fracas dissolved without BMF dave seriously hurting the crowborough player, play continued

Crowborough got the play down the right hand side and produced a mid-air shot into the ‘D’ deflecting off a crowborough players stick into the goal bringing the scores level, surely that was dangerous play?! Half time was a welcome break much needed to regroup!

The 2nd half started much like the end of the first half crowborough in control of the play. Crowborough forced the play into the brighton 25m area where a shot was fired from outside the ‘D’. in true Hehir fashion this produced a beautifully clear ‘leave’ followed by the now infamous step over that is so customary of hehir! However he did fail to see the deflection off the crowborough players stick inside the ‘D’! oh well hehir second year running against the same team, not bad going!!!

Staring defeat in the face brighton didn’t give up and re-found the form they had at the start of the first half, brighton began to play, passing the ball around and forcing the pressure onto the crowborough defence, with so much pressure in the crowborough half, brighton had to force something and they did, a short corner although crowborough felt hard done by the corner was awarded and brighton scored from another of their well rehearsed routines off the stick of pilsbury. With brighton level there was a renewed urgency, the play intensified, and brighton continued to ply the pressure. With most of the play in the crowborough 25m area it was only a matter of time before brighton would get another short corner, which they did and again the crowborough team moaned how unfair it was but this didn’t knock brighton who took the corner with the efficiency they had their previous two and again didn’t disappoint although slightly more scrappy than the previous corners the ball ricocheted off a crowborough players foot falling to PMSleeze (affectionate new nick name for sleeze on the account of the number of times he spits his dummy out during a game!) in to clear open space which he took with great composure to put brighton in the lead.

Brighton continued to play well until the end of the game when a goal mouth scramble allowed crowborough to equalise. Final result 4-4
