East Grinstead 4s 1-3 Junior Gulls XI

How fantastic are Sue and Angie? With a full team but no transport and a long walk to East Grinstead not really on the cards they bravely stepped up to the mark late on a Friday evening, even foregoing shopping expeditions. Well, it was worth the trip to watch a game of Brazil-like proportions in it's display of skill and expertise. OK, maybe not quiet that good, but we weren't bad at all. The opposition had drafted in at least two of their first eleven players, which at first daunted the young Brighton players, but these initial fears didn't last long as we dominated all areas of the pitch. Before long, however, after a shocking short corner decision, we were 1-0 down completely against the run of play. (Sophie didn't expect the ball to bobble quite so much, she's used to harder shots than that!). Only a few moments later the tables were turned as Brighton scored a smacker from a short corner. I'm not used to scoring so screamed as if I had been shot, apologies to any residents in the nearby area who may have called the police. Brighton continued to dominate scoring a further two goals more from Ashleigh and Emily, though it could have been a lot more as Zoe and Bella made surging runs into the D.

The entire team played like future internationals. Beth, Becky and Hana solid in the defence yet supporting the attack. Becky in particular to be congratulated for not flinching in the face of a rather harsh huge smacker of a hit from their first eleven player. Emily and Ashleigh dominating the midfield, dribbling round the senior players, or confidently taking the ball from them when they weren't looking and Ellen, Zoe and Bella up front taking on their defence at every opportunity. Sophie had her usual stormer in goal (apart from the one bobble incident) and Alex yet again commanded like a general from the back. A brilliant result all round. Thanks to everyone.
