Crowborough Chicks 0-3 Junior Gulls XI
The great thing about meeting at 8.30 in the morning is that the roads are empty! (Every cloud has a silver lining as they say). Off we set for deepest darkest Crowborough with yet again the captain getting lost. Things looked bad as the Crowborough signs were suddenly pointing the other way. Still, plenty of time to warm up and a strip tease on the side of the pitch as there seemed to be an absence of changing facilities. With the added bonus of more adult influence in the shape of Monica and Alex we took to the pitch confident of a result and we weren't disappointed, scoring 2 easy goals thanks to some brilliant attacking by the team and faultless finishing by Hannah. However, true to form this hockey heaven could not continue for ever. Out of the blue one of the opposition fainted in their goalmouth. Game halted. Luckily we had retreated to a polite distance before the poor girl proceeded to have some kind of epileptic fit. Obviously the ambulance was called for, and arrived at speed down the footpath to the pitch. Surely, we thought, they will stop outside the pitch, but no. They took the 'far too small' gates at speed, ripping the top of the fencing, leaving a gate hanging off its hinges and knocking lights and mirrors off the sides of the ambulance. The hockey was rather an anticlimax after all this. We finished an impressive 3-0 up, all the goals scored by Hannah who is sadly far too young to buy a jug. The whole team performed amazingly well and we now have our first official 3 league points.
Thanks in particular to Alex and Neil for keeping the team entertained while the essential medical work went on, and again to the parents for driving at that unearthly hour in the morning.
Well done everyone.
