BBHC 2's 2-1 Men's 3rd XI

The “Thrilling” 3’s arrived at league leaders BBHC, as is customary for away games, 1.5 hrs before push back (cheeky sod - less than an hour [thanks to the traffic jam on the M20] - Ed). This provided adequate time to locate a second umpire and entertain the opposition with our choreographed stretching routine (we forgot to open and close the gate - Ed).

Once the threat of having to umpire was over, the focus of the pre-match team talk turned to ensuring a good start. The 3’s duly responded and took a deserved lead through Bondie. Brighton continued to dominate the first 20 minutes and should have taken the game away from BBHC. However the 3’s failed to convert chances and allowed BBHC to equalise against the run of play. BBHC then went 2-1 up and we discovered that their sweeper/skipper could play a bit.

Brighton started again strongly after the interval. Barring the occasional run from the sweeper and picking the ball up from the sidelines, Brighton’s defence were rarely troubled in the second half. Although the play was being dictated by Brighton, the ball just wouldn’t go into the opposition goal.

Despite losing the match 2-1 Brighton can be satisfied with a good team performance.
