South Saxons 3s 4-0 Junior Gulls XI

How exciting. The first EVER league game for the Brighton Ladies 7s (known as the 'Gulls'). We set off in a relatively disorganised convoy for the sunny climes of Hastings. Our willing band of parents had no problem finding the pitch. However our captain complete with 4 members of the team, plus the shirts and the goalkeeping kit was trapped in the nightmare that is Hastings one-way system and only arrived at Horntye with minutes to spare before the start. The opposition lined up against us looking a little ferocious, which was an understatement as within 5 minutes we were 2-0 down to two blasting shots from the edge of the D. Our valiant goalkeeper, Ella, decided from that point that between the posts was not the place for her. Luckily Phoebe stepped up to the mark and took her place. We played some fantastic hockey in the second part of the half, and kept them down to 2-0.

Things were going pretty well in the second half until an unfortunate reverse hit at goal (never advisable) from the oppositon smacked Gabby in the forehead. To shorten the ensuing 15 minutes it goes like this - blood - enthusiastic and very welcome first aider - Ambulance Gary to the rescue - rest of team trying to start a fight with the opposition - frenetic remaining 5 minutes of hockey. Still, all's well that ends well, they only scored 4 goals overall, they gave us tasty soup and bread, Phoebe brought chocolates and the lovely opposition took great care of us until Gabby arrived back from the hospital with her head glued back together.

Huge thanks to all the parents for their transport and support (and their map-reading skills).

Bring on the rest of the league.
