Mid Sussex III 1-2 Men's 5th XI

After last weeks disappointing result Brighton entertained Mid Sussex at Deason. As usual the team contained a few new faces and the team were again without Captain Ramzy, on Stag Weekend Duty in Denmark ! For the second week running Swampy arrived at the pitch minutes before the start (perhaps the 5’s should follow the 4’s example and have a late arrival award!). The first half started fairly evenly, Brighton took the lead after 10 minutes with a well taken goal by Will Selby. Mid Sussex fought back and drew level following a powerful strike from the edge of the Brighton D. Half time score 1-1.

Brighton created a number of good opportunities in the second half with Wappy pulling the strings in midfield. With three minutes to go a scrabble in the Mid Sussex D resulted in the ball being forced over the line. There appeared general confusion as to who had scored however it was College who was claiming it in the Clubhouse later in the evening ! Brighton were indebted to Pete Stevens who pulled off a fine one handed save in the last minute to ensure victory. A hard fought and well-deserved victory after last week’s disappointment. Man of the Match was Ollie for an assured performance at right back.
