Oxted 2-0 Men's Veterans XI

While the reservoirs of the South of England gorged themselves on the prolonged rainfall over the weekend Brighton and Oxted Veterans got thoroughly soaked before poor visibility precipitated the abondonment of the game with twenty minutes remaining.
The weather did a good job of spoiling what was actually a pretty reasonable game of hockey with both sides moving the ball around smartly. Oxted's main threat was through the middle and indeed both their goals came from this source despite resolute marking by Cameron Heath and heroic golakeeping by Andy Hehir.

Brighton's new look formation created plenty of chances and were unlucky not to score before the mist closed in. New drafts Graham Pruce and Neil Beglin celebrated the Commonwealth Games with their version of hammer throwing using hockey sticks. Both players managed "throws" of several metres as the grips becames wetter. Hopefully they enjoyed the game enough to consider stepping up to the Veterans side next season.

One more game to go and then it's time to clean the clubs, linseed oil the bats and even inflate the tyres on the bikes. Tunbridge Wells away will be like stepping back through time as the groundsman marks out the pitch on the GRASS outside the clubhouse. Now where did I put those football boots?
