BHHC 6s 2-7 Junior Gulls XI
With a goal scored last week our hopes were high for another goal. However, the chances of this were looking as slim as my metal arithmetic, when on Saturday morning we were down to 9 (as I thought) this was in fact an accounting error and we in fact only had 8 confirmed players. Luckily a call from the Beglin household resulted in Ellen coming along. This now gave us a the grand total of nine actual players. Two less than the opposition. Yet another saviour appeared in the guise of Phoebe's dad Neal who generously offered the services of another daughter and rushed off to bring her pitchside. Taking the plunge and venturing out of the shelter of the shed into the icy blast of the Stanley Deason wind, we started the game with the 9 aformentioned players and promptly went 1-0 down. The surprise being that this was quite definitely against the run of play. Just before half time our luck changed for the better. We equalised just minutes before Chloe rushed onto the pitch to take up the vacant centre forward position. Luck was on our side again when a short corner going wide was turned in by an unlucky defender. It was not luck however that resulted in the other 5 goals that were well deserved and an exhibition in teamwork.
The Captain selfishly scored 3 herself, but the other forwards stepped up to the mark turning in some lovely goals from the posts, two to Zoe T and two to Chloe (on her debut!). Fantastic hockey all round from Beth and Emily who ran and ran and ran and then ran some more playing some lovely hockey between the running; to Phoebe who nearly froze to Siberian tundra in the 70 minutes, but we couldn't have done it without her; plus the defenders Ella and Becky who stuck like glue to their players ably marshalled by Alex turning in yet another amazing performance; not to mention the attackers, Ellen, Chloe and Zoe who were instrumental in clocking up the scoreline.
A brilliant performance all told from this week's Gulls who were
Phoebe, Alex, Bex, Ella, Becky, Emily, Beth, Fi, Ellen, Zoe T and Chloe
