Eastbourne 3-0 Men's Veterans XI
The wheels came off Brighton Veteran's game as a well organised Eastbourne team ran out comfortable winners at a windy Stanley Deason. As usual Brighton were a bit slow out of the blocks but as the first half wore on they managed to create a stream of chances and short corners. As ever, when the ball was moved smartly out to the flanks the home side caused all sorts of problems. James Alexander, David Martin and Rob Scrivens enjoyed plenty of ball and lost no opportunity to cause problems for the visitors. Despite having most of the play the closest Brighton came to scoring was when Tim Ireland hit the post from a short corner. Maybe it was just one of those days but it seems likely that a goal might not materialise even if the sides were still playing six hours later.
The second half saw a reversal of dominancy and Eastbourne justified their higher league position. At times Brighton looked ponderous on the ball and it was no suprise when Eastbourne took the lead from a well worked short corner. This signalled a ten minute period where they added another two goals to seal the match. Brighton responded well but despite creating some chances the ball refused to travel goalwards.
In the end there can be no complaints about the result and the Veterans will have to raise their game for the visit to Lewes this weekend.
