Chichester 1-2 Men's Veterans XI

Chichester have always been one of the better teams in the Veterans' League and Brighton can take much pride at taking 6 points from them this season.

The style of the win may not have been great to watch but full credit to the visitors who battled hard for each other throughout the 70 minutes.

Outstanding performances from the two James were the highlight of the match: Myers in goal producing some astonishing saves including a well taken penalty stroke; Alexander marauding down the right hand side scored once and set up the second was like a perpetual motion machine for most of the match.

Rob Scrivens set a lower benchmark for scoring distance from the goal-line. He has now scored eight goals this season with an average distance travelled of 17.5 inches.

Adrian Adams had a game he might wish to forget with several goal attempts going wide and a coupe of attempted passes producing the thought that perhaps he was already "five off the tee". The records don't lie though and with eighteen goals this season he is allowed one off-day!

A year ago the old Brighton would have conceded two soft goals at the end and lost the points. This year's side is made of sterner stuff and that extra level of determination is making all the difference.

This week pits Brighton against Worthing another much improved side.
