Sevenoaks 1-0 Men's 3rd XI
Brighton's thrilling 3's entertained Sevenoaks on Saturday in the teams new position as the aperitif before the 1's customary goal fest and it seemed fitting that it was more a game of defensive guile than of attacking flair.
Brighton fielded a very strong side and welcomed back the much missed James Grimes. Unfortunately things didn’t start well and midfield maestro Prucey went off injured leaving captain Dan's master plan severely disrupted. However, thanks to the heroics of Brighton 'keeper Dave Brooks, who pulled off a string of excellent saves, Brighton went in at half time with the scores level.
The second half for Brighton was much better as they settled in and began to mount some pressure well orchestrated by Carlo in the centre of the park and some good running from the wingers. Sevenoaks eventually took the lead after an extremely controversial short corner was awarded which was duly dispatched. The thrilling 3's still pressed for an equaliser late in the game but it was not to be. No shame should be felt from any member of the team as it was a good display against probably the best and well organised team in the league. It was also enjoyable to play in a game of good sportsmanship and skill from both sides, and who knows with a bit of luck the result could have gone the other way. Luck, however, has been a fickle mistress for the 3's this season.
Special thanks should be made to Superdad Dave who ably stepped in at the last to put in a solid performance at right back.
