East Grinstead 3 4-3 Men's 2nd XI

A very evenly matched game saw Brighton leave disappointed not to gain at least a draw. The first half saw some strong possession hockey on both sides with Brighton dominating the half after the first 10 minutes. This however, did not prevent EG from taking the lead and Brighton struggled to cross the goal-line despite some excellent attacking pace from Robbie Guthrie and some well-worked movements through the midfield. A short corner just before the half-time whistle provided John Child with a striking opportunity which he did not fail to convert, doing so with some vigour!

The second half saw Brighton dominate the game once more for 15 minutes and Simon Coles made use of a goalmouth scramble, taking the slotting the ball home to bring the score to 2-1. EG soon climbed back though, bringing the scoreline back to 2-2 with a well worked break. As Brighton struggled to achieve the dominance from earlier in the game, EG followed up with 2 further goals, leaving the home side somewhat bewildered. However, the focus was soon regained and a controlled pass from Phil Gardner straight to Robbie Guthrie at the top of the D saw an excellent goal at the top of the net.

Unfortunately this was not quite enough to level the scores and Brighton finished without the success that had been hoped for. There was some great team play from the Blues at times though and the weeks ahead certainly look promising as the 2XI settle into some consistency of play.
